ADVANCED OBSTACLE DETECTION

A world-first, the Advanced Obstacle Detection system uses three innovative technologies to help detect a wide range of obstacles in front of the car, including, for the first time, pedestrians.

A millimetre-wave radar recognises objects with sharply-defined edges in front of the vehicle. This is supplemented by a stereo camera installed at the top of the windscreen to detect objects with minimal radar reflection, such as humans.

And for night-time obstacle detection, near infra-red projectors supplement the camera. These are located within the car’s headlamps and have the same range as high-beam.

Advanced Obstacle Detection is an integral element of the LS’s optional Advanced Pre-Crash Safety system.

OBSTACLE DETECTION

OBSTACLE DETECTION

1. Millimetre-wave radar that recognises Objects in front of the vehicle.

FRONT MILLIMETRE-WAVE RADAR

STEREO CAMERA

2. Stereo cameras mounted at the top of the LS 460s windscreen that detect objects with minimal radar reflection such as humans and animals.

NEAR INFRA-RED PROJECTORS

3. Near infra-red projectors that supplement the cameras at night.

All three systems combine supplying data to generate a powerful 3D-model used to anticipate danger ahead.
