COLLABORATING FOR CLEANER AIR

COLLABORATING FOR CLEANER AIR

Launched in 2018, the United Nations Environment Program and World Athletics partnership aims to address global air pollution. With 91% of people worldwide breathing air that doesn’t meet WHO guidelines, World Athletics has pledged to help raise awareness, while also contributing important data to help combat this far-reaching issue.

THE POWER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

World Athletics is installing air quality sensors at over 1000 athletics tracks globally. The real-time data collected at these points will not only help runners to choose the healthiest time to exercise in their city, it also assists local governments in understanding the effects of air quality in their communities. The data also enables research into the correlation between air quality and athlete performance.
