Whether your journey involves gliding about town with friends, taking the family out on an adventure or travelling long distances, we’re sure there’s a Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid vehicle to suit your needs.
HOW DO LEXUS HYBRID CARS WORK?
Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid vehicles intelligently combine petrol engines with electric motors. Our in-car technologies self-select the best power source based on your driving without interfering. Hybrid technology helps bring you improved fuel efficiency and zero emissions when on electric power.
DO I NEED TO PLUG IN?
No. Our hybrid systems self-charge the batteries of the electric motor through innovative energy conversion and regenerative braking.
ISN’T HYBRID MORE EXPENSIVE?
There’s no extra running costs or maintenance for a Lexus hybrid vehicle. In fact, in the long term, you’re likely to make savings on fuel costs when your Lexus Hybrid chooses to drive using the electric motors, and tax breaks on lower emissions where applicable.
HOW RELIABLE ARE THE ENGINES?
Our hybrid models are as reliable as a regular petrol or diesel car. They’re exceptionally durable, and the electric motors and generators are completely maintenance free. For additional comfort, you can always book in for a standalone Hybrid Health Check.
DOES HYBRID AFFECT PERFORMANCE?
Never. Our models actually work better than standard vehicles, especially when you start in the EV (Electric Vehicle) mode and allow your Lexus to switch to petrol when the need arises.
HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY HYBRID CAR?
An annual Hybrid Health Check is the best way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your Lexus Hybrid. The Hybrid Health Check is free of charge, and included when your Lexus goes in for a service.
Choosing a Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid to match your lifestyle shouldn’t be a difficult decision

WHAT IS A HYBRID CAR?
A hybrid car has two power sources: a petrol engine and an electric motor. In a full hybrid system – like Lexus Hybrid Drive - both can power the car individually, or they can team up to work together. A hybrid system monitors your driving conditions and seamlessly controls the flow of power. The result is increased efficiency, lower emissions, and optimised performance.
HOW DO HYBRID CARS WORK?
Petrol engines perform best at constant speeds, while electric motors are great for accelerating and for cruising at low speeds. Hybrid cars harness the benefits of both.
In Lexus Hybrid, our Power Control Unit intelligently monitors driving conditions, and chooses which power source should be used in a given moment. It seamlessly switches between the two, or combines both. The optimum choice is made for you, so you can enjoy enhanced power, swift acceleration and dynamic handling.
Teamed with finely tuned aerodynamics and lightweight materials, our hybrid technology also brings you remarkable fuel efficiency and low emissions. And when you’re driving with electric power alone, your car generates zero emissions.
HOW RELIABLE ARE LEXUS HYBRIDS?
Our hybrid models are as reliable as similar petrol and diesel cars. They’re exceptionally durable, and their electric motors and generators are completely maintenance free.
IS MAINTENANCE MORE EXPENSIVE WITH A HYBRID CAR?
An annual Hybrid Health Check is the best way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your Lexus Hybrid. The Hybrid Health check is free of charge, as part of any Lexus service. But if you aren't due a service for a while, you can maintain your peace of mind with a stand alone Hybrid Health Check for just £59.
With each Hybrid Health check, you'll benefit from an extra 1 year or 10,000 mile (whichever comes sooner) hybrid battery warranty extension. This is available up to the 10th anniversary of the vehicle’s registration, with no limit on total mileage. Terms and Conditions apply so please contact your local Centre for full details.
ARE HYBRID CARS SAFE?
Lexus Hybrids have the same expertly designed and rigorously tested safety features that you’ll find across our whole range. They’re as safe to drive as a conventional vehicle, giving you peace of mind.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A HYBRID CAR?
A hybrid car only uses fuel when it really needs to. When you’re travelling at low speeds, your vehicle will seamlessly switch to electric power. This means a hybrid car is efficient, economical and has low emissions, even when you’re accelerating. When you’re driving with electric power alone, your car generates zero emissions. The vehicle's overall performance is optimised too.
WHAT ADVANTAGES DO LEXUS HYBRIDS HAVE OVER OTHER HYBRID SYSTEMS?
Lexus hybrid technology is the original and the best. We were the first to pioneer full hybrids and we’ve been perfecting our approach ever since. Together, over a million drivers like you have travelled millions of kilometers all over the world, powered by our leading technology.
Unlike other systems, Lexus Hybrid Drive can run purely on electric power at lower speeds. This means zero emissions, and great efficiency. Competitor systems tend to have much smaller electric motors which only work alongside the petrol engine – they can’t power the car alone.
CAN I SWITCH BETWEEN POWER SOURCES?
There’s no need. The intelligent Power Control Unit monitors your driving conditions and seamlessly controls the flow of power, to lower emissions and boost performance when you’re on the road. From start up, to acceleration, mid-journey, and deceleration, the optimum choice is made for you.
For zero emissions and maximum efficiency, you can choose to switch to electric power alone for short periods if you like – if the driving conditions are right.
CAN I LEAVE MY LEXUS HYBRID CAR FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WITHOUT CHARGING THE BATTERY?
There’s no need to charge your Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid - it’s always ready to go.
As with a conventional vehicle, the battery can go flat if it’s not used for an extended period, like when you go on holiday, for example. But that’s unlikely. And if it does happen, the petrol engine will start your car.
The advanced, compact battery is efficiently charged as you drive. It’s also charged through ECB-R (Electronically Controlled Braking-Regeneration). This smart technique captures energy when you brake, converting it to electricity to charge the battery.
HOW FAR CAN LEXUS HYBRID CARS TRAVEL ON BATTERY POWER ALONE?
It depends on the level of battery charge, the driving conditions, and how heavily your car is loaded.
Your Lexus Hybrid can work on battery power alone at low speeds. Our system intelligently monitors the battery and keeps it charged to a minimum level. If you’re driving long distances or at faster speeds, the petrol engine will start.
CAN I USE MY LEXUS HYBRID CAR IN EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS?
Lexus Hybrids have exactly the same capabilities as a conventional car. As with any car, it’s still important to pay attention to the driving conditions, and take extra care when needed. Always avoid driving if there are severe weather warnings.
WHAT MAKES LEXUS HYBRID DRIVE DIFFERENT FROM PETROL EQUIVALENTS?
All Lexus Hybrid models have two power sources: a petrol engine and an electric motor. Both can power the car alone, or they can team up together. The world’s most advanced Power Control Unit intelligently monitors your driving conditions and seamlessly controls the flow of power. The result is increased efficiency, lower emissions, and optimised performance.
Our Hybrids are the top models in their ranges, so you’ll enjoy the highest specifications and the ultimate driving experience. And whether you use it as your personal car or company vehicle, a Lexus Hybrid will save you money, whilst reducing your environmental impact.
DO I HAVE TO EXTERNALLY CHARGE MY LEXUS HYBRID CAR’S BATTERY?
Never. Lexus Self-Charging Hybrid vehicles never need plugging in – they recharge as you drive and use ECB-R: Electronically Controlled Braking-Regeneration when you brake.
WHAT’S THE MAXIMUM SPEED A LEXUS HYBRID CAR CAN REACH BEFORE THE PETROL ENGINE STARTS?
Hybrid cars switch to petrol power once they reach a certain speed. In optimum conditions, a hybrid vehicle can reach up to 28mph – or up to 40mph for the NX – on electric power alone before the petrol engine kicks in.
HOW LONG WILL MY LEXUS HYBRID CAR’S BATTERY LAST?
The battery in a Lexus hybrid is designed to last the life of your vehicle, but to ensure peace of mind, your battery is warranted for 5 years. Hybrid batteries are much larger than regular car batteries, powering the car at low speeds without any support from the petrol engine. Battery production does have a small, additional impact on the environment, but this is more than compensated for by the environmental benefits of driving a hybrid car.
