FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Lexus NX is available as a Plug-in Hybrid with a pure-electric range of up to 40 miles** or as a Self-Charging Hybrid

ALL-ELECTRIC AT LOWER SPEEDS

When you start off and at lower speeds, the powerful front electric motor (and rear electric motor on All-Wheel Drive models) propels the NX 350h with electric power supplied by the battery. At this point you are enjoying near-silent and 100% electric driving for a short distance.

NEAR SILENT AT CRUISING SPEEDS

Lexus Self-Charging Hybrids are quiet and relaxing to drive. At higher speeds, the ultra-smooth 2.5-litre petrol engine cuts in quietly and receives assistance from the electric motor(s) when required. With engine running at optimal speed, surplus power can be used to charge the battery. Alongside low emissions and fuel consumption, this near perfect distribution of petrol and electric power also provides the extraordinary driving enjoyment which characterises the NX 350h.

RAPID LINEAR ACCELERATION

Lexus Self-Charging Hybrids are fun to drive. When you accelerate hard, the power of the electric motor(s) instantaneously supplements the NX’s 2.5-litre petrol engine. Together they deliver a potent surge of torque, providing rapid linear acceleration precisely when you need it.

REGENERATIVE BRAKING, NO PLUGGING IN

When decelerating, coasting, or when you come to rest, the petrol engine often turns off silently. On braking, or when you take your foot off the accelerator, regenerative braking harnesses your car’s kinetic energy (this is wasted in conventional cars). The NX 350h converts this into electrical energy for storage in the hybrid battery, together with power generated whilst driving at higher speeds, which means it never needs plugging in.

The Lexus NX is a mid-size luxury SUV crossover. The NX sits on a 2,690 mm wheelbase and is 4,660 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,670 mm high. Inside it’s spacious too. Developed for the NX models and installed under the rear seats, its high-performance lithium-ion batteries contribute to both the spacious interior and excellent driving performance.

Yes. Smartphone integration is enabled using a wired link for Android Auto.

Both self-charging and plug in hybrids have a petrol engine and electric motor and can use them simultaneously or independently to maximise efficiency. However, the plug-in hybrid has a larger battery that can be recharged from an external source. This means that the plug-in hybrid can drive much further in EV mode using only its electric motors and, if the battery is depleted, it will operate as an efficient hybrid vehicle. Whereas plug-in hybrids can be charged from both a charging point or from capturing engine and braking energy, self-charging hybrids can only recharge using the latter.

Self-Charging Hybrid vehicles have both a petrol engine and electric motor. As the engine and motors have different power characteristics, the car’s systems use the optimum mix of power sources to ensure that it is operating as efficiently as possible at all times. For example, when driving slowly, it may only use the electric motors; when accelerating it may use both sources; whilst cruising it will constantly vary the mix of power between the two, possibly adding a little motor power if there is a gentle incline, reducing engine power and harvesting energy on downhill inclines; and whilst braking it will harvest the lost energy to recharge the battery.

Your actual charging cost depends on various factors, including where you charge, local utility rates, battery size and even the time of the day. Estimate your charging cost here.
